Job summary

A leading healthcare consultancy is seeking an experienced Data Architect to lead data architecture activities mainly for NHS systems. Overview

We are supporting an NHS organisation seeking an experienced Data Architect to lead and support data architecture activities across clinical and operational data platforms. The role requires strong domain experience working with ICD-10 and ICD-11 classifications and a solid understanding of NHS data standards and environments.

This is a delivery-focused contract supporting data consistency, interoperability, and readiness for reporting, analytics, and transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and maintain data architecture standards, models, and patterns across NHS systems
  • Design logical and physical data models aligned to clinical and operational requirements
  • Work extensively with ICD-10 and ICD-11 coding structures and mappings
  • Support data migration, transformation, and standardisation initiatives
  • Ensure alignment with NHS data standards, interoperability frameworks, and governance policies
  • Collaborate with clinical, data, and digital teams to translate requirements into scalable data solutions
  • Support reporting, analytics, and downstream consumption of clinical data
  • Produce clear architecture documentation and artefacts
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience working as a Data Architect
  • Strong hands‑on experience with ICD-10 and ICD-11 classification systems
  • Prior experience working within the NHS
  • Strong data modelling skills
  • Experience working with complex clinical datasets
  • Understanding of NHS data standards and governance requirements
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Desirable
  • Experience supporting ICD-10 to ICD-11 transition programmes
  • Knowledge of FHIR or other healthcare interoperability standards
  • Experience with cloud‑based data platforms
  • Background in data warehousing or analytics architecture
