Pay and hours

Our Customer Delivery Driver rate of pay starts from £13.35 an hour; this increases to £14.56 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.

New colleagues are offered a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week. If you would prefer fewer hours (to a minimum of 12), we have opportunities available.

Role purpose and scheduling

The period of time shown above represents the availability windows. We will schedule contracted hours within these times and provide 3 weeks\' notice of exact shifts. We are flexible and welcome applicants whose available times closely match the advertised windows.

Customer focus

Customers are at the heart of everything we do. As a Tesco Customer Delivery Driver, you will meet and talk to customers in their homes on a daily basis. This role is about more than driving; it is about delivering great service with a smile.

It is hands-on, physical, and varied. Most of the day you will feel like your own boss delivering to customers, with a team of Managers and colleagues back at base to support you when needed.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Delivering your part of the customer shopping trip
  • Ensuring the van and trays are clean and organised
  • Leaving the back yard clean and free of rubbish; pick up litter as needed
  • Washing trays as part of the tray wash process
  • Loading the van, checking roadworthiness
  • Communicating with customers about changes to their order, substitutions, and refunds if needed
  • Taking care of products/deliveries as if they were your own
  • Explaining substitutions to customers and ensuring no additional charge
  • Delivering within the customer’s time slot
  • Calling the customer before arriving if early
  • Calling the store/centre if delayed by 30 minutes or more
Requirements
  • Build relationships with colleagues to support team spirit and customer service
  • Warm and welcoming in interactions with customers and colleagues
  • Ability to respond quickly to changing customer needs
  • Energetic and driven to deliver beyond expectations; balance home and work
  • Share ideas with management on store improvements
  • A UK/EU/EEA Driving licence (Full or Automatic only) for at least 12 months with no more than 3 penalty points
  • Able to adhere to the GB Domestic Driving Rules
