Critical Engineering Manager

Location: Glasgow, G5 8DP

We are seeking a highly experienced Critical Engineering Manager to oversee the engineering operations across a large, multi-building site.

This role is pivotal in ensuring all equipment and systems remain compliant with statutory requirements and operate at peak efficiency through proactive maintenance, repairs, and effective management of engineering assets.

Job Description

The successful candidate will lead a well-established team of 20, including two supervisors, shift engineers, day technicians, and fabric specialists.

You will maintain strong client relationships, manage new projects and refurbishments, and ensure adherence to safe systems of work (SSOW) across M&E disciplines.

This is an exciting opportunity for a calm, decisive leader with proven experience in critical engineering environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee engineering operations across five buildings and associated facilities, ensuring resilience and availability of all assets.
  • Manage and motivate a team of 20, including supervisors, shift engineers, and day technicians, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, Health and Safety at Work Act (HASAWA), and ISS safe systems of work (SSOW).
  • Plan and deliver PPM schedules to maximise operational effectiveness and reliability of plant and systems.
  • Respond promptly to reactive maintenance issues and help desk requests, ensuring SLA and KPI targets are met.
  • Liaise effectively with the client and campus facilities team to deliver a best-in-class workplace environment.
  • Compile quotes for client approval and manage procurement of supplies, materials, and third-party services with strong financial acumen.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and quality assurance procedures for all site-related activities.
Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications
  • Proven leadership experience in engineering management within critical environments (e.g., data centres, hospitals).
  • Strong technical knowledge of generators, UPS, HV systems (full HV expertise not essential).
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions.
  • Excellent client-facing and team motivation skills.
  • Financial and commercial awareness for procurement and budgeting.
