Criminal Law Solicitor Opportunities - Legal Aid - CLAS accreditation required - Middlesex / North London - £30k-£40k

We are on the hunt for qualified Criminal Law Solicitors, holding a current, non-conditional practising certificate for at least 3 years, to join a UK-headquartered, international law firm operating in the UK, Europe, North America, Asia and Africa.

We are recruiting for three different vacancies in the firm, suitable for qualified solicitors with the Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme (CLAS) accreditation:

  • Criminal Law Supervisor
  • Prison Law Supervisor
  • Legal Appeals and Reviews Supervisor

The Criminal Law Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing casework and fee-earners under the Standard Crime Contract, ensuring full compliance with legal and procedural standards and the high-quality delivery of criminal investigation and criminal proceedings.

The Prison Law Supervisor will be responsible for providing specialist legal advice and representation to clients in custody, ensuring compliance with prison law, human rights and relevant statutory frameworks. They will be responsible for supervising casework, mentoring junior solicitors and/or paralegals and ensuring high-quality legal services are delivered.

Suitable candidates will need to have undertaken at least 4 Parole Board or Independent Adjudicator representations in the last year.

The Legal Appeals and Reviews Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing appeals and review casework, ensuring compliance with legal, contractual and procedural requirements, and providing supervision and guidance to fee-earners.

They will ensure high-quality preparation and conduct of appeals and review matters and maintain standards required under relevant regulatory and audit frameworks.

What we’re looking for:

  • Qualified solicitor holding a current, non-conditional practising certificate for the last 3 years
  • Hold Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme (CLAS) accreditation
  • Experience supervising at least 1 FTE Designated Fee Earner or Caseworker (min. 1 year), or completed formal supervisory-skills training within the last 12 months
  • Undertaken a minimum of 350 hours of direct casework in the last 12 months (or 1,050 in the last 5 years if working part-time)
  • At least 6 Police Station Advice & Assistance cases in the last year
  • Experience in magistrates’ / Crown Court representations
  • Highly organised nature with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills with strong interpersonal skills
  • Good professional judgement and discretion
  • Supervisory skills with the ability to manage team members
