Pay: £63,000-£71,000 per year (pro rata, dependent on experience) • Hours: 15 hours per week

Main Purpose
The post holder will work as part of The Nook Therapy Clinic, providing diagnostic assessments to young people and adults. This role is open to Clinical Psychologists who can offer expertise in autism and ADHD. The post holder will support designated staff and provide advice and awareness-raising of neurodiversity across agencies to facilitate group activities, contributing to planning and implementation of interventions.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Contribute to the diagnostic assessment of autism and ADHD in children, young people, and adults (additional training provided if needed).
- Under the supervision of the lead psychologist, provide specialist advice and support to multidisciplinary and multi-agency professionals and families working with neuro-diverse children, young people, and adults. Lead MDT discussions to support assessment and diagnosis of ASD and ADHD.
- Under guidance, gain experience and provide tailored, evidence-based, time-limited support to partners, carers and wider family members of autistic/neuro-diverse individuals.
- Contribute to the development, coordination and evaluation of specialist interventions within the Neurodevelopmental Service.
- Support and contribute to research projects, ensuring interventions are evidence-based and comply with NICE guidelines, current legislation and professional standards.
- Undertake a caseload to support senior Neurodevelopmental Team colleagues and work according to a plan agreed with the Team Lead and Clinical Lead.
- Offer specialist knowledge and skills in multidisciplinary case discussions.
- Under supervision, undertake training to become proficient in autism and ADHD assessment tools as recommended in NICE guidance.
- Ensure effective and timely contribution to multidisciplinary team discussions and supervision around diagnostic assessments.
- Contribute to service development and the implementation of activities and programmes, including evaluation and improvement.
- Provide specialist advice and consultation to other professionals and build relationships across the Neurodevelopment MDT and other agencies.
- Maintain autonomous practice within competency, manage own caseload, and provide support to individuals with autism and ADHD.
- Ensure adherence to Health Board policies and legislation and best practices around autism and ADHD.
- Contribute to Neurodevelopmental team policies, procedures and service improvement.
- Role model professional codes of practice and uphold The Nook Therapy Clinic values, delivering excellent standards of care.
- Critically evaluate research evidence related to clinical effectiveness and share findings with team; highlight unmet needs to senior colleagues.
- Support audits, service evaluation and quality improvement, and involve service users and families in service development.
- Utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to inform practice; contribute to clinical research when opportunities arise.
Communication and relationships
- Communicate with clients, relatives and multi-agency professionals regarding complex, sensitive information.
- Attend case conferences, meetings and reviews as required; communicate effectively with service users, families and MDTs.
- Prepare comprehensive, analytical diagnostic assessment reports and share information with other agencies as required/with consent.
- Develop and deliver educational and training materials across settings and mediums.
Knowledge, skills, training and experience
- Relevant degree in Clinical Psychology and HCPC registration.
- Willingness to train in autism/ADHD diagnostic instruments.
- Understanding of needs of autistic individuals and families; knowledge of multi-agency partnership working; record-keeping standards; and impact of local, cultural and demographic factors on service delivery.
- Experience with working with adults and/or children with Autism/ADHD; willingness to develop across the lifespan.
- Experience in developing, planning, implementing and delivering training; IT literate (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel).
Financial, physical and information resources
- Manage own time effectively; apply prudent healthcare principles when managing workload and travel.
- Maintain high standards of clinical record keeping, electronic data entry and reporting; ensure security of information per policy.
- Be familiar with IT packages and use digital recording equipment as required.
Freedom to act
Work within boundaries set by the clinical lead; use initiative to prioritise work. Regular supervision will be provided. Practice within service and handbook guidelines and professional codes of practice. Complete mandatory training and other development identified through appraisal.
