Job Summary

NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) is a life‑saving organisation dedicated to improving lives. We have a passionate Nursing workforce that delivers professional development across Blood Supply, Clinical Services, Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate Nursing Professional Development activities across NHSBT nursing and lead the nursing vision and delivery of strategic objectives, measuring compliance and strengthening collaborative working.
  • Deliver and monitor the Nursing Strategy with the Nursing SMT under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, ensuring KPI reporting and action‑plan monitoring.
  • Lead a team of professional experts supporting safeguarding, student nurse advocacy, professional nurse advocacy and resuscitation activity.
  • Support professional development, education training and workforce issues.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the wider organisational direction and ensure nursing is aligned to these objectives.
  • Maintain strong working practices with key internal and external stakeholders, reflecting a cross‑Directorate nursing workforce.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN1 or RNA) on the Nursing & Midwifery Council register.
  • Degree at masters level or equivalent senior/managerial experience.
  • Evidence of continued learning and application in practice.
  • Computer literacy; competence in use of Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Commitment to own Continued Professional Development (CPD).
  • Recognised teaching and assessment qualification, e.g. City & Guild 730 or Nursing Board 998.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours and to travel extensively, including overnight stays when required.
Experience
  • Experience in the delivery of strategic objectives, establishing new areas/ways of work and change management.
  • Experience in the provision of leadership in a professional or clinical environment, being seen as a subject matter expert and reference for policy interpretation.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience in the management of resources within financial and political constraints, including budgetary and business planning processes.
  • Experience in leadership, change management and leading healthcare improvements.
  • Knowledge and experience of research methodologies and evidence‑based practice.
  • Experience in presenting and publishing papers.
  • Involvement in professional development – both personal and of others.
  • Experience of mentorship and coaching.
