Job summary

A leading energy consultancy in Manchester seeks an experienced Contracts and Claims Manager to support project teams by reviewing contracts and establishing claims management strategies. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in contract and claims management, especially in construction-related projects, and is educated to degree level in relevant disciplines. Responsibilities include drafting contract variations and managing disputes, while ensuring compliance with commercial requirements and protecting contractual rights.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Contract Management and Commercial Management.
  • Familiarity with contract terms of EPC contracts.
  • Experience in managing claims, variations, and sub-contractor agreements.
  • Experience of working in Construction, Civil, Engineering industries.
  • Educated to degree level ideally in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Contract Law.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Contracts and Claims Manager to join our rapidly growing GT business based in Manchester.

Your responsibilities
  • Support the project teams with review and interpretation of customer and supplier contracts
  • Familiarisation and screening of applicable contract related documents and advising the management and project team of critical issues
  • Work with Project Managers (PMs) and commercial project managers (CPMs) to establish suitable claims management strategies for each project
  • Participate and contribute to customer and supplier meetings from contract negotiation, claims management, contract variations and contract formulation perspectives
  • Identifying, evaluating, and following up on all events relevant for incoming and outgoing claims - Customer and / or Subcontractors
  • Pursuing or defending incoming and outgoing claims by collecting and advising on relevant project records, documentation, and all relevant facts.
  • Collecting, preparing, analysing and managing relevant claim documents and evidence in accordance with contractual deadlines & requirements
  • Supporting the CPM and PMs or leading, as necessary, in drafting of letters, making contractual notifications etc.
  • Contribute towards preparation for disputes, arbitrations etc
  • Supporting the CPMs or leading, as necessary, in drafting contract variation agreements, deeds of amendments, claim settlement agreement and sub-contractor agreements
  • Working closely with the legal team and commercial teams to organise reviews of agreements drafted and obtaining legal approvals
  • Supporting project procurement by advising on administrative and commercial terms & conditions for subcontracts
  • Supports the CPM in evaluating the risk exposure in line with the contractual terms
  • Performs contract analysis with a view of identifying opportunities for making customer claims and achieving positive contract variations
  • Ensures Commercial requirements are met, and Siemens Energy's contractual rights and entitlements are protected while managing contracts and claims
  • Contributes towards developing a robust business wide claims management process and shares best practises and lessons learned
Your profile
  • Experience in Contract Management and Commercial Management
  • Familiarity with contract terms of EPC contract
  • Experience in managing claims, variations, and sub-contractor agreements
  • Experience of working in Construction, Civil, Engineering type industries
  • Experience of working in Substations, HVDC, interconnectors, windfarms, transmission, power plant construction type projects
  • Educated to degree level ideally in disciplines such as Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Contract Law
  • Legal, Contract Law, Construction Law qualification will be an advantage
  • Experience in Quantity Surveying and appropriate qualification would be an advantage
  • Experience in setting up and negotiating terms and conditions of subcontracts
  • Team player who can work successfully across multi-disciplinary teams
  • Someone who displays the tenacity and perseverance to see topics through to completion
  • Strong communicator - both verbal and written
  • Someone who appreciates and contributes towards achieving the wider objectives of the project and the business
  • Ability to successfully forge sustainable relationships with relevant contacts within the customer and supplier organisations
