BACKGROUND

United Rugby Championship (URC) is the toughest competition to win in club rugby. Teams from five of rugby’s elite nations Ireland, Italy, Scotland, Wales and South Africa are transforming club rugby into a league of super clubs. The URC embraces difference and champions its athletes on their journey in a league that can proudly represent all of those involved with the game.

Off the field, URC will strive to provide a platform for our players to tell their stories to connect with fans and inspire the next generation of rugby fandom.

The brand positioning ‘A Different League’ is a statement of intent to be unlike any other rugby competition in the world. This positioning reinforces the diversity of the teams and supporters within the league and sets an aspirational challenger mindset to be bold and different to other rugby brands.

THE ROLE

The content creator will play a central role in bringing the URC to life across digital platforms. Guided by the new content strategy, this role is responsible for creating high-impact, culturally connected, always on social content that turns attention into long-term affection.

This is a 12-month contract role based in London. This role will require some weekend work during the URC season, with time‑off in lieu provided during the week.

Applicants outside of the London area will not be considered for the role.

THE CANDIDATE

The chosen candidate will be a creative thinker with a passion for content and building fandom. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience producing creative content for social. A visionary communicator with an instinct for crafting unforgettable stories. Helping to bring rugby to life in bold, fresh, emotionally charged ways that captivate fans and elevate our brand narrative.

REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 4 years’ experience creating social content for sports, entertainment, or youth culture brands
  • Brings real creative flair and a passion for storytelling in unique ways to deliver high impact
  • Ability to identify untold stories, create trends and find innovative ways to push rugby into new genres that resonate with diverse fan communities
  • Social media management – experience of working with key platforms including YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Whatsapp & Facebook
  • Advanced understanding of platform algorithms, content formats, emerging trends and creative content
  • Experience of working with video editing tools such as WSC, CapCut, Premiere Pro & AI with a strong grasp of editing for social platforms
  • Graphic design skills using Photoshop, Canva, Azzuu
  • Ability to tell compelling stories through long/short‑form content, particularly on Instagram Reels, YouTube & TikTok
  • Live coverage – experience in managing social channels during live games or events
  • Deep understanding of youth culture, not just rugby culture
  • Collaborative – a team player capable of working with videographers, freelancers, talent & clubs
  • Able to work flexible days, according to the URC calendar

This role would require some weekend work to ensure full coverage of URC matchdays. Attendance in the London office (Victoria) for a minimum of 2 days a week (Tuesday & Thursday). During busy periods this may increase.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The chosen candidate will help make the URC the most authentic, accessible, and culturally relevant rugby competition in the world—capturing moments, shaping narratives, and driving emotional connection between fans, players and clubs. The role holder is accountable for:

Content Creation & Storytelling
  • Capture, edit, and publish daily short‑form vertical content for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook
  • Create social & digital assets to support the content plan, aligned with the URC tone of voice

Produce content across URC's four core content pillars:

  • League Narrative – match stakes, explainers, club guides, milestones
  • Rugby Universe – heroes & villains, rivalries, physicality, humour
  • Bridging Themes – player personality, grassroots, fan culture, community
  • New Spaces – fashion, food, lifestyle, music, gaming, influencer collaborations
Publishing & Community Management
  • Community management of URC social channels, engaging with fans, monitoring conversation, fan sentiment and real‑time opportunities
  • Develop copy and instil best practice for publishing content across the URC channels
Matchday Content Execution
  • Play a key role in the match day content engine, helping provide coverage of URC matches
  • Identify and collaborate with content creators, managing the end‑to‑end process from briefing through to content delivery
  • Deliver reactive, shareable content that fuels hype, emotion and rivalry
Trend Identification & Viral Content Development
  • Track cultural trends, sports memes, audio trends and platform innovations that can be applied to URC
  • Experiment with new content formats to grow audiences, especially Gen Z & Gen Alpha
  • Collaborate with influencers, creators, clubs and players to integrate rugby into wider cultural moments

On the job training will be provided.

Personal circumstances must allow the candidate to work extended hours on occasion during times of peak activity including evenings and weekends.
