Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist in Medical Psychotherapy to join Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Based at Moorgreen Hospital, this is an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver psychotherapy training for our growing cohort of over 200 resident doctors, while contributing to high-quality, compassionate patient care.
As Consultant Psychiatrist in Medical Psychotherapy, you will play a key role in delivering and overseeing psychotherapy education across the Wessex Psychiatry training programme.

Responsibilities
  • Teach, supervise clinical cases, lead Balint and reflective practice groups, and support resident doctors in the development of psychodynamic skills.
  • Provide clinical leadership with a focus on evidence-based practice, robust risk management, and recovery‑focused care.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in psychology, community teams and postgraduate education to shape new pathways and expand psychotherapeutic initiatives across the Trust.
  • Participate in appraisal, CPD, governance, and contribute to Trust-wide priorities including service innovation, staff wellbeing and quality improvement.
  • Join and contribute to the postgraduate and medical education team, working with an established Consultant colleague, psychologists, AHPs and clinical tutors.
  • Take a leading role in teaching, supervision and reflective practice groups, while contributing to service development and potential growth of higher psychotherapy training across the Trust.
