BCUHB is the largest health organisation in Wales, providing primary, community, mental health, acute and elective hospital services for a population of approximately 700,000 across North Wales.

We support our staff through the “Proud to Lead” competence framework, engaged leadership at all levels, and policies that promote equality, diversity and work‑life balance. BCUHB welcomes applicants under the Disability Confident Employer scheme and values applications submitted in Welsh, which will not be treated less favourably than those submitted in English.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee Older Persons Services across GP surgeries in the South Gwynedd area.
  • Provide CPA reviews and ward rounds for inpatients, run outpatient clinics, and give medical input to the memory service.
  • Deal with organic referrals for the catchment area and graduate with adult consultant psychiatrists for patients aged 65 who meet complex needs criteria.
  • Comply with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010 and, where approved, undertake duties under the Mental Health Act 1983 as a Section 12/2 approved doctor.
  • Deliver specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and management for individuals with cognitive impairment, including young‑onset dementia, and for those over 70 with functional illnesses.
  • Support the development of an age‑equal or needs‑based specialist Older Persons Mental Health Service (OPMHS) within the catchment area (both functional and organic).
  • Provide medical leadership to the CMHT E and consult with Primary Mental Health Services for the elderly, coordinating a limited number of personal cases and creating Care & Treatment Plans.
  • Act as Consultant and Responsible Clinician for patients admitted to Hergest and Cefni units, and deliver Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act opinions for the catchment area.
  • Prepare reports and give consultation services to aid the Health Board’s commissioning of long‑term health care for patients from the catchment area.
  • The role may at times be shared with a junior doctor, depending on the training rota.
