A regional health trust is seeking two Consultants in Geriatric Medicine to join the Care of the Older Adult department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The role encompasses delivering high-quality care for frail older patients and involves collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. Candidates should possess relevant medical qualifications and strong clinical skills. This is a full-time permanent position offering a salary between £109,725 to £145,478 per annum, with opportunities for professional development and cross-site working.
The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust has an exciting opportunity for two Consultants within the Care of the Older Adult department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. These are new posts aimed at expanding the department and developing front door (acute frailty) and short stay ward capabilities across the Trust. The post holder will work across both sites, beginning at PRH to support with the opening of Frailty SDEC.
Contribution to an out of hours call rota is core to this role.

Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.

A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate and their Clinical Director and consultant colleagues, on behalf of the Medical Director within 3 months of starting in post. A full-time job plan is based on an 11PA working week. The job plan will be reviewed annually and is a prospective agreement that sets out the consultant's duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year. It covers all aspects of a consultant's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external and will include personal objectives, detailing links to wider service improvements and trust strategic priorities.
For a full-time contract, the job plan will be divided on average per week (pro‑rata for a part-time post) as: 8.5 Programmed Activities (PAs) of Direct Clinical Care – includes clinical activity, clinically related activity and predictable and unpredictable emergency work; 1.5 PA on‑call; 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) – includes CPD, audit, teaching and research.
The allocation of PAs is reviewed and may be subject to adjustment when a further diary exercise is undertaken or if the service demands a review of the team job plan.
