We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Paediatric Consultant to apply their knowledge and skills in our Community Dental Service. STSFT Community Dental Service has a friendly and skilled workforce providing dental care to people of all ages, including adults and children with special needs. Services are provided in both primary and secondary care settings across Sunderland, South Tyneside and Gateshead dentist.
Our Community Dental Service spans a wide range of treatments offering great opportunities for involvement, including to practice all clinical facets of paediatric dentistry. Service opportunities involve comprehensive consultant‑led general anaesthetic sessions to be provided from Sunderland Royal Hospital, occurring twice per week on all day sessions, occurring Monday and Thursday. The service provides intravenous sedation for young people aged 12 to 16 years of age. This post is for 0.6 WTE (6 Pas) Substantive Consultant in paediatric Dentistry with the Community Dental Service at Sunderland and South Tyneside NHS foundation Trust. This post will be based in Clarendon but most clinic session will occur in paediatric theatres in Sunderland Royal Hospital and in other community clinics based across the service. The department receives referrals from other tertiary services, general dental practitioners and medical practitioners with severe medical complexity, anxiety and trauma.
Thesuccessful candidate will join a supportive, caring team and undertake new patient consult clinics including treatment under inhalational, intravenous sedation or general anaesthetic. They must be fully registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) UK and on the GDC Specialist Register in Paediatric Dentistry or equivalent. They must be accredited or within 6 months of such accreditation at interview stage and have completed SAC approved training programme or equivalent.

To contribute to the planning and delivery of Paediatric Dentistry within the Community Dental Service and lead on key areas in conjunction with the Clinical Lead. To provide clinical leadership in all aspects of Paediatric Dentistry including General Anaesthetics. To ensure a high-quality standard of evidence‑based clinical care is maintained. To maintain accurate clinical and statistical records of all activities undertaken on behalf of the FT. To carry out clinical supervision of trainees. To take part in staff development and facilitate the training and supervision of other dental staff and junior colleagues. To take part in local and regional CDS Clinical Audit and Quality Monitoring programmes. Foster effective collaborative and teamworking ethos with all departmental staff, division, hospital and all professional services.
