About the Unit

The service provides general ILD clinics as well as subspecialist Rheumatology ILD, Vasculitis ILD, Familial ILD and Sarcoidosis clinics, and offers an outreach nursing service to North Manchester and Central Manchester Hospitals. The service has a strong research tradition and is currently running a number of commercial and non‑commercial studies. The ILD team focuses on improving patient pathways and early review and diagnosis in ILD.

Responsibilities
  • Participate as a member of the research team (sub‑ or principal investigator) on national and international trials for patients with ILD, including commercial and non‑commercial studies and research grants.
  • Conduct and lead service evaluation, audit and quality improvement projects in the ILD unit, ideally under the Integrated Research Application System (IRAS).
  • Provide education and training to staff, students and junior doctors, and potentially take on a formal role in undergraduate or postgraduate education.
Qualifications
  • Completed higher training with some experience in the specialist field of ILD (desirable).
  • Research training and a postgraduate degree (MD or PhD) are desirable.
  • The role is suitable for SpRs at completion of training and for consultants with some expertise in ILD.
