Consultant in Healthcare for Older People and Stroke Medicine

We are seeking to appoint a Consultant in Healthcare for Older People (HFOP) to join our Northern services based at North Devon District Hospital, Barnstaple. This role forms part of a wider integrated service, working collaboratively with our Eastern services at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital to deliver high-quality, patient‑centred care for older adults across North and East Devon.

Stretching across Northern, Eastern and Mid Devon, we have a workforce of over 15,000 staff, making us the largest employer in Devon. We deliver a wide range of emergency, specialist and general medical services through North Devon District Hospital and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (Wonford). In addition, we provide integrated health and social care services across community inpatient hospitals, outpatient clinics and within people’s own homes, as well as primary care, specialist community services and Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARC).

Successful candidates will be offered autonomy and dedicated time to undertake teaching, training and the opportunity to develop sub‑specialty interests. The post is offered on a whole‑time basis (10 payscale points) but part‑time applicants will be considered. Flexible working arrangements, including job sharing, will be discussed with shortlisted candidates.

Qualifications & Person Specification

Applicants must have completed specialist training in Geriatric Medicine / Healthcare for Older People and be entered on the GMC Specialist Register prior to taking up the appointment. We welcome established consultants and senior trainees within six months of completing specialist training.
