Job description
Consultant in General Paediatrics and Neonates

CONSULTANTS IN GENERAL AND NEONATAL PAEDIATRIC

2 x 10 PA posts and 4x 8 PA posts (52 PA's in total)

Based at Royal Free Hampstead site

Permanent Posts

Interview dates are Friday 27th February p.m. and Monday 2nd March

Main duties of the job

We invite applications for posts in general paediatrics with a neonatal interest. The post holders will be part of the daytime general paediatric team, covering the Emergency Department and ambulatory service. They will provide general paediatric outpatient clinics and paediatric subspeciality clinics, depending on their interests. In addition to general paediatrics, these posts support our neonatal service. The postholders will undertake attending weeks on the level 1 neonatal unit and will join a 1:8 neonatal consultant on-call-from-home rota at the Royal Free Hospital site. It is necessary for the post holder to have Level 2/3 Neonatal experience and to be confident in managing neonatal emergencies. There is a consultant resident on site 24 hours and the postholders will be on call from home for the neonatal unit. There is an additional general paediatric consultant on call from home to support the paediatric service. There is currently no resident night component to this post, but this will change, following the service reconfigurations recommended by the Start well board. This will see the neonatal unit close over the next few years.

About us

A full time 10PA post will comprise 8 DCC and 2 SPA (pro rata for LTFT). The rota is annualised to allow for more flexibility and better work/life balance.

Proposed Job Plan:

All the consultant paediatricians at the Royal Free site work on an annualised rota. The work patterns for these posts include duties in the Paediatric Emergency Department, ambulatory shifts, outpatient clinics and Neonatal consultant of the week. The out of hours cover comprises twilight shifts to 10pm and 1:8 on call from home for the neonatal unit. Each activity has a PA tariff attached e.g., an outpatient clinic provides 1.25 PAs. Taking study leave, annual leave, Bank Holidays & Trust Statutory days into account, a 10 PA post would be expected to work a 42-week year. i.e., provide 420 PA's.

Job responsibilities

Applicants will need to have full registration with the GMC and in possession of a CCT in Paediatrics (or equivalent) or within 6 months of achieving CCT, on the date of interview.
