Go back Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an exceptional Consultant Radiologist with a subspecialty interest in Breast and Gynaecological Imaging. This full-time (10 PA) position presents an opportunity to join a dynamic radiology team and contribute to the continued excellence of diagnostic and imaging services.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will deliver high-quality imaging services across symptomatic breast imaging, gynaecological imaging, and general radiology. Specific duties include:
- Breast Imaging: Participation in breast one-stop clinics, advanced procedures such as vacuum-assisted biopsies (VAB), breast MRI, contrast-enhanced mammography, and other reporting duties. Active involvement in benign and malignant breast multidisciplinary meetings (MDMs).
- Gynaecological Imaging: Reporting gynaecological MRI, including advanced studies such as placenta imaging, and participation in various benign and malignant gynaecological MDMs.
- General Imaging: Supporting acute and outpatient general imaging services, including plain film reporting, CT scans, spinal MRI, and general ultrasound (including transvaginal ultrasound). Also supporting acute and oncological imaging, including staging CT and MRI spine reporting.
About us
The Department of Radiology is part of the Clinical Imaging and Medical Physics (CLIMP) Directorate within the Integrated and Specialist Medicine (ISM) clinical group. It is led by Joint Clinical Directors and supported by a General Manager and Head of Nursing. The Radiology Department's management team includes a Clinical Lead Radiologist and a Head of Radiology Services.
The Directorate contributes to the Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) through participation in the Imaging and Biomedical Engineering Clinical Academic Group. Imaging services are delivered across three sites: St Thomas' Hospital, Guy's Hospital, and Evelina Children's Hospital. The department operates a fully integrated RIS and PACS system (Sectra) with video-conferencing capabilities and PACS links with regional hospitals to facilitate multidisciplinary patient reviews.
With an asset base exceeding £25 million, the department is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging and interventional facilities, performing over 500,000 imaging examinations annually, including about 88,000 CT scans.
Job responsibilities
The postholder will work across multiple sites as determined by senior management and service needs. The role includes 10 programmed activities, comprising:
- Clinical duties as outlined above
- Teaching and training radiology registrars, clinical fellows, medical students, and allied health professionals
- Participation in leadership, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities as part of Supporting Professional Activities (SPA)
- Contribution to the on-call rota with potential evening and weekend work

Person Specification
Professional Qualifications
- Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
- On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT
- FRCR or equivalent
Clinical Experience & Skills
- Completion of specialist radiology training programme
- Subspecialty training in Breast and Gynaecological Imaging, including contrast mammography and transvaginal ultrasound
- Experience leading and participating in relevant subspecialty multidisciplinary meetings
- Independent performance and reporting of all general diagnostic imaging
- Subspecialty independent reporting of Gynaecological and Breast Imaging
- Completion of Breast/Gynaecological Radiology Fellowship programme
- Experience of Independent MDM work
- Excellent leadership skills and ability to motivate a team
Audit Management and IT
- Understanding of clinical governance and audit in a successful department
- Management and IT skills; understanding of audit principles
- Experience with specific audits in Breast/Gynaecological imaging
- Transformational experience in Clinical Radiology
Research, Teaching skill & experience
- Understanding of the importance of research in Breast/Gynaecological imaging
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff
- Track record of published Breast/Gynaecological research in peer-reviewed publications
- Formal Teaching qualification
- Innovative and enthusiastic approach to imaging research
