Bart's Health is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Consultant Haematologist to join their team. This is a replacement 10PA substantive, full time post and joins an existing team of 4 other consultants who between them cover all areas of care for patients with Thrombosis. This post is essential to ensuring that we continue to provide a high standard of care for patients with inherited and acquired bleeding disorders and will help with the sustainability, development, and expansion of the service at Barts Health NHS Trust.

Context:The Department of Clinical Haematology is based on 4 sites (Royal London, St Bartholomew's, Whipps Cross and Newham Hospitals) and functions as one department. The medical team consists of 22 consultant haematologists and 9 haematology trainees, plus middle grade and academic haematology fellows. We have a busy and interesting clinical and research practice and hold one of the largest NIHR-funded research portfolio for non-malignant haematology research in the UK.

Main duties of the job

The clinical work involves:

  • outpatient clinical work at St Bartholomew's and Newham sites
  • diagnostic and validation support for our regional referral NHS coagulation laboratory
  • liaison advice to colleagues in other Barts Health services
  • clinical support for our anticoagulant practitioner service
  • advice to colleagues in primary care via our Advice and Guidance portal
  • on call duties providing haemostasis and thrombosis advice for Barts Health and referral centres to our Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre
This is currently a non-resident 1:7 rota.

The appointee will also be committed to our research, audit and quality improvement programme including:

  • dedicated time for participation in thrombosis and anticoagulation research projects
  • contribution to collaborative, ergonomic pan-Trust guidelines
  • standardization of our clinic practices to improve the patient experience
  • the progression of our ambitious and data-driven anticoagulation stewardship programme to improve thromboprophylaxis for the 2.5 million people we serve in East London

Person Specification
Qualifications / Higher Qualifications
  • Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
  • FRCPath or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Higher Research Degree
Experience
  • Have experience in the management of resources
  • Experience in diagnostic and clinical haematology
  • Proven publications record
Knowledge and Skills
  • Have experience in management of staff/colleagues and demonstrate management of change

  • Have demonstrated an ability to work co-operatively with other colleagues and in multi disciplinary teams.
