Job description

Consultant Haematologist - East of England - Perm/FTC

Triple West Medical has been appointed by an NHS Trust in the East of England to recruit a Consultant Haematologist on a substantive basis. They are also considering a Locum Consultant for a 12-month FTC.

The Trust is one of the largest in the region, providing acute and community services to over 850,000 people, with a staff of over 7,500 across two main sites. The department has an active interest in clinical research in collaboration with the local university and is seeking a new team member.

The job plan is expected to include 10 PA's, with 8.5 PA's of direct clinical care and 1.5 SPA's per week. You will work 8 sessions at the main hospital site and 2 sessions at an additional site (TBC and negotiable).

Brief Duties/Responsibilities
  1. Provide clinical haematology care, including outpatient, day care, and inpatient reviews.
  2. Participate in and discuss patient management for malignant haematological diseases at the Network Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings.
  3. Manage clinical haematology referrals from colleagues in other disciplines (medical, surgical, obstetric, etc.).
  4. Handle inpatient referrals, Choose and Book referrals, and Advice & Guidance requests from GPs.
  5. Provide laboratory services, including blood film and marrow review, anticoagulant, and transfusion support.
  6. Offer clinical liaison for service users from hospital and community teams.
  7. Maintain high standards in laboratory performance.
  8. Collaborate with biomedical scientists and laboratory staff.
  9. Participate in postgraduate and undergraduate teaching, as well as training of healthcare professionals.
  10. Contribute to appraisal and assessment of junior colleagues.
