Job description
Overview

An exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join CAMHS in the Community North Team. This full‑time post in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is offered by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. It is a replacement post following the transfer of a consultant colleague and is part of the remodelling of Specialist Community CAMHS provision. The role covers children and young people from North Nottinghamshire (Newark, Sherwood and Bassetlaw).

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide psychiatric cover for the region.
  • Participate in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Consultant evening and weekend duty rota (currently one in ten pro rota).
  • Contribute to daytime cross‑cover arrangement for emergencies with all CAMHS Consultants in Nottinghamshire.
  • Manage, appraise and supervise junior medical staff, assessing competences under the Modernising Medical Careers framework.
  • Ensure junior staff operate within the parameters of the New Deal and Worktime Directive compliance.
  • Undertake administrative duties associated with patient care and record clinical activity accurately for the Information Department.
  • Participate in service and business planning and annual appraisal for consultants.
  • Attend and contribute to the Trust’s academic programme, including CPD lectures and seminars.
  • Maintain professional registration with the GMC, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval, and comply with professional codes of conduct.
  • Participate annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager.
Qualifications
  • MRCPsych and CCT or CESR, eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register (or expected to be within six months of interview).
  • Approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act 1983.
  • Ability to travel readily between clinical bases.
Other Information

There are no special responsibilities associated with this post. The Consultant will work with the clinical team to deliver a high‑quality evidence‑based service. The post holder is expected to provide consultation to the MDT, offering psychiatric expertise and direct involvement in assessment, diagnosis, pharmacological treatment, use of the Mental Health Act, and management of complex presentations.

Additional details: The caseload will be between 60‑70, depending on current team caseload. The Trust provides a comprehensive treatment programme with opportunities for further development.
