A public health trust in South London is seeking a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and Neuropsychology Lead. We are looking to appoint an experienced and dynamic Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist into a vacant position in the Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Outpatient Service at the South London and Maudsley (SLAM) NHS Foundation Trust (based at the Maudsley Hospital in South London). This will be an opportunity to join a diverse clinical team of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Psychotherapists and Physiotherapists working with an interesting and rewarding group of service users. The successful candidate will also serve as the Neuropsychology Lead for Neuropsychiatry and have an important role in the ongoing development of services across the outpatient, inpatient and day hospital arms of SLAM's Neuropsychiatry and Neurorehab services.
Applications will be welcomed from individuals with experience of working in the field of neuropsychiatry. They will also have advanced clinical skills in engagement, assessment and treatment, and a track history of working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
In both education and research, the Trust works closely with the IOPPN and the School of Medicine at King's College London. The post will offer opportunities to be involved in staff development through supervision and teaching, and in research and audit projects.
oTo lead, manage and plan the delivery of a highly specialist neuropsychology service and personally provide expert clinical input, including assessment and therapeutic interventions to patients referred to the Neuropsychiatry Service.
oTo be responsible to the Professional Heads of Psychology and Psychotherapy for both thePsychological Medicine and Integrated Care CAGfor the monitoring and implementation of professional standards in the practice of clinical neuropsychology and psychotherapy within the neuropsychology services within the neuropsychiatry pathway, and for the systematic and effective provision of clinical and professional supervision.
oTo contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
oTo ensure the conduct of research, service evaluation and audits relevant to the Neuropsychiatry and Neuropsychology Service, and the CAGs research agenda.
oTo be responsible for the good clinical governance, quality and appropriateness of the work of neuropsychologists in the Neuropsychology Service
oTo work as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by principles and policies or procedures, and interpret these and be responsible for their implementation within the service area of responsibility.
The Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Outpatient Service comprises of 1 WTE Neuropsychologist (covered by 3 individuals), five Neuropsychiatrists, four CBT Therapists, and one 0.6 WTE Physiotherapist. We also have two Consultant Neurologists who run an assessment clinic for functional neurological disorder one day per week. The clinical team is supported by a Business Manager and a team of 6 Service Administrators. The successful candidate will join a diverse and friendly multi-disciplinary team dedicated to improving the lives of our service users. The outpatient team benefits from strong links with the wider Neuropsychiatry Service, other specialist and community services within SLAM, as well as the IOPPN and King's College London.
KR 1 Clinical and Client Care
To plan, organise and ensure the delivery of neuropsychology and psychotherapy services in the Neuropsychiatry Neuro-rehab Service within the PMIC CAG.
To plan and organise the integrated delivery of services which ensure the co-ordination of neuropsychology and psychotherapy services with other services.
KR 2 Responsibilities for team or service clinical functioning
To work with the leads/managers of the Neuropsychiatry Neuro-rehab Service, other SLAM services and of other agencies services to plan and deliver joint services that are integrated around the needs of service users
To co-ordinate (and chair) team and service meetings for the Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Service to ensure effective functioning and review when appropriate.
KR 3 Policy and service development
To interpret policies and guidance for application in the Neuro-psychiatry Neuro-rehab Service and be responsible for policy development and implementation
To initiate, implement and ensure appropriate service developments in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues to improve the quality and delivery of services in the Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Service and in partner services.
To ensure the consultation and engagement of service users in planning and delivering services which meet the needs of local communities.
KR 4 Care or management of resources
To be responsible for the management of neuropsychology and psychotherapy resources in the service.
To ensure that the service has sufficient materials and equipment
KR 5 Management and supervision
To deputise when appropriate for the CAG Professional Head of Psychology and Psychotherapy.
To provide leadership to psychologists, psychotherapists and other professionals in the Neuropsychology Neurorehab Service
To lead appraisals of, and personal development plans for, psychologists in the service.
KR 6 Teaching and Training
To organise access to, and provide specialist clinical placements for, trainee applied psychologists and psychotherapists in the service.
To ensure all mandatory training as outlined by the Trust is completed and remains refreshed
KR 7 Record-keeping and Information Governance
To ensure that all information generated by own work is recorded as required by Trust policies and local procedures. To complete and maintain all mandatory training on information governance and data protection issues.
To ensure the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing, according to professional and Trust guidelines, including electronic data entry, in those parts of the service for which the post-holder has management or leadership responsibility.
KR 8 Research and development
To ensure the planning, initiation and completion of research, service evaluation and audits relevant to the Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Service and the wider CAGs research agenda, as appropriate.
KR 9 Maintaining professional standards and continuing professional development
To receive regular clinical and professional supervision according to HCPC, BPS and Trust guidelines.
To ensure own Continuing Professional Development in line with BPS and Trust Personal Development Plan requirements and the HCPC Standards for Continuing Professional Development.
KR10 General
To travel to meetingsas appropriate and across the Trust and in the community when required.
To be aware of risk relating to aggressive and challenging behaviour amongst the client group and follow trust policies relating to its management.
