Overview

The Role We are seeking an experienced Specialist Surfacing Manager to oversee and manage carriageway and footway surfacing projects from planning to completion. You will lead a team of skilled internal operatives and external sub-contractors ensuring works are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day carriageway and footway surfacing operations, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee highway surfacing works across multiple projects including the provision of footway surface treatments, carriageway micro asphalt, surface dressing and any associated preparatory works.
  • Liaison with all parties in the delivery of the specialist surfacing programme including contractors and sub-contractors, traffic management companies and internally with procurement, network management, finance and highway operations.
  • Lead, motivate, and support surfacing teams to deliver exceptional results.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure clear communication and project success.
  • Monitor progress, costs, and quality, reporting regularly to senior management.
  • Drive continuous improvement, adopting innovative surfacing techniques and sustainable practices.
About you
  • Possess a Higher National Certificate in Civil Engineering or equivalent in a related discipline.
  • Have experience in the application of Health and Safety legislation and procedures on highways sites including compliance with CDM regulations.
  • Have experience in carriageway and footway surfacing management.
  • Have strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Have excellent technical knowledge of surfacing techniques, materials, and equipment.
  • A proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and multiple priorities.
  • Have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Possess a full UK driving licence (or equivalent).

If successful, you will be required to undertake and pass an in-house driving assessment as part of our pre-employment checks before any offer of appointment can be confirmed.
