What You Will Contribute To Altos

An exciting 18 month defined term contract opportunity is available for a Computational Scientist to join the Franklin Lab, at Altos’ Cambridge Institute of Science (Cambridge, UK).

The group seeks to recruit a Computational Scientist to join a multidisciplinary and collaborative team at Altos Cambridge that aims to understand the basis of adult stem cell ageing and how it can be reversed. The main role of the candidate will be to provide computational biology support for a number of projects taking place within the group.

About the Franklin Lab at Altos

The Franklin Lab at Altos is led by Robin Franklin, FRS, who has made many pioneering discoveries on the mechanisms by which adult stem cells contribute to the regenerative biology of the CNS, and specifically how CNS progenitors replace lost oligodendrocytes, how their function declines with aging and how this can be reversed.

Responsibilities

  • Proficient in leveraging advanced bioinformatics tools for the comprehensive processing of sequencing data, spanning from raw reads to analytical outputs.
  • Experience integrating genomic and pathway/network datasets with novel experimental data to derive biological understanding.
  • Fluency in programming languages such as R, Python, or other widely adopted languages to enhance analytical and visualization capabilities.
  • Understanding of standard statistical methods with proven examples in real-world context.
  • Possess a nuanced comprehension of biology and/or translational research, coupled with the ability to apply computational approaches to address complex biological inquiries.
  • Established ability to translate team’s scientific questions into analytical strategies and methods.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work as part of a team in an international and interdisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to present complex computational methods to non-experts.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and a positive 'can-do' attitude.
