Job summary

A leading educational support provider in Torquay is seeking a Complex Needs Support Officer to assist pupils aged 3 to 19 with profound multiple learning disabilities. This position involves working one-on-one with students who require tailored support, building trust, and providing compassionate care. Ideal candidates will have SEN or health and social care experience, and they will support the pupils during activities to ensure their development both inside and outside the classroom. This is a temporary position with potential for permanency.

Complex Needs Support Officer

Location: Torquay

Hours: 8:30 – 3:30 Monday to Friday

Salary: £90-£95

About The Role

We are seeking a committed and determined Complex Needs Support Officer to work with pupils between 3 and 19 with a variety of profound and multiple learning disabilities. Individuals often face significant challenges with communication, cognition, mobility, and independence and usually require specialised support and individualised educational strategies to meet their diverse needs. These pupils need someone approachable and compassionate as they may be unsure of forming new relationships. Your ability to build trust and communicate needs to be adaptable to suit their individual needs.

The position is in an alternative provisions setting offering tailored learning to meet the various needs and abilities including moderate, severe, profound, and multi-additional needs of the pupils. You will also participate in activities including assisting pupils to excluding appointments including hydrotherapy and general tasks (e.g., going for a walk to get out into the community). There is a sensory room onsite where you will be supporting pupils 1:1. The lessons you will assist in providing offer social, emotional, and vocational support and are often very hands on to ensure students are prepared for life beyond school, whilst improving their social emotional behaviour.

Requirements

We welcome those with previous SEN experience (personal care, British Sign Language, non‑verbal, and ASD), health and social care experience, experience in sports and manual handling is also very sort after, or anyone with a background in supporting young people. We are looking for a fun, bubbly person with a nurturing attitude and someone who is compassionate with natural instincts to care and provide for others.

Applicants will need (or be able to obtain during registration process)

  • Enhanced DBS (children only) on the update service.
  • Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration.
  • Safeguarding (children and young people)
  • 24 months of references (factual, characteristic and for childcare)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
