Overview

We are seeking an experienced Operational Manager for a 3-6 month interim assignment to lead and oversee a busy frontline service. This role will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of operations, including staff supervision, performance monitoring, service delivery, and effective resource management.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee a busy frontline service and manage day-to-day operations to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Supervise staff, monitor performance, and manage resources to meet service requirements and partnership priorities.
  • Develop and motivate teams to achieve key Council and partnership priorities; lead planning and continual improvement of the business area.
  • Engage in partnership working and maintain strong relationships to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Build collaborative relationships and engage constructively with key stakeholders.
  • Monitor external contracts and produce high-level reports detailing progress against work areas for stakeholders.
  • Deliver services that offer best value, are innovative, and meet high standards of quality in line with partnership needs and service requirements.
  • Provide clear corporate direction aligned with the council’s priority programs to achieve efficiency and economy in operation.
  • Advise senior managers on service requirements, monitoring performance indicators, and demonstrating responsiveness, quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead policy development, analytical judgment, high-level report writing, and agile decision making; stimulate service improvement, innovation, and initiative.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Substantial proven experience of managing a team within a local authority/community safety environment.
  • Experience in leading, developing, and motivating teams and individuals to achieve Council and partnership priorities.
  • Experience of partnership working and maintaining strong relationships to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-profile and politically sensitive environment.
  • Experience in producing statutory and other performance returns and advising senior managers on analysis of service requirements and performance indicators.
