Job description

An exciting opportunity for a mid-level commercial lawyer to join a high-performing in-house legal team within a fast-paced, asset-intensive business. The role offers broad exposure across commercial, corporate, finance and operational matters, working closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation.

Reporting to a senior legal leader, you will provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice and play a key role in supporting strategic and operational initiatives. This position is well suited to a lawyer looking to broaden their experience beyond traditional commercial contracting in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide end-to-end legal support on the procurement of goods and services, particularly in areas such as engineering, maintenance and fuel, including:
  • Supporting RFP processes
  • Negotiating and drafting supplier agreements
  • Advising on supplier relationship management
  • Advise on fleet-related matters, including transactions involving assets, suppliers and lessors.
  • Support strategic corporate projects, including acquisitions, disposals, investments, joint ventures, partnerships and corporate restructurings.
  • Advise treasury and finance teams on payment arrangements, financing structures, security arrangements and hedging documentation.
  • Support the management of a diverse property portfolio, including:
  • Negotiating leases and licences
  • Advising on consents and resolving landlord disputes
  • Contribute to legal team improvement initiatives, including:
  • Process simplification and standardisation
  • Use of legal technology and automation tools (e.g. Microsoft 365, e-signature platforms, AI-enabled tools)

Skills & Experience Required

  • 5–8 years’ PQE
  • Strong commercial lawyer background, ideally gained within complex, asset-heavy industries such as engineering, aerospace, transport, infrastructure or manufacturing
  • Exposure to, or interest in, corporate and finance transactions in addition to commercial work
  • In-house experience or client secondment experience is desirable
  • Commercially astute with the ability to quickly identify key issues and prioritise effectively
  • Comfortable managing multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive, self-motivated and solutions-focused
  • Strong relationship builder, able to influence and gain trust at all levels
  • Confident in expressing views while respecting differing perspectives
  • Comfortable operating in an informal, collaborative office environment
