Job description
Overview

The 'Commercial Finance Manager' will be a financial advisor to the firm's fee-earning business units, providing financial insights to assist business decision-making. This role supports budgeting and forecasting processes and assists the Head of Financial Reporting, Planning & Analysis in producing ad hoc analysis that communicates key messages clearly. The role will also be involved in finance projects focused on improving and modernising the firm's reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Provide proactive financial business partnering support to the fee-earning business units and build strong relationships with senior leaders.
  • Prepare financial management information for departments, partners and users as specified.
  • Support the fee-earning business units with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Prepare ad hoc analyses of performance and trends, including variance analysis, costs, income, profitability drivers, and annual surveys.
  • Drive data accuracy and integrity, ensuring correct use of firm systems and data hierarchies (e.g., client partners and matter types).
  • Support the team in developing and implementing improved management reporting tools and processes.
Team

The Finance department consists of 30 professionals across three specialist areas — Financial Control, Financial Operations and Financial Reporting. The role works under the day-to-day supervision of the Head of Financial Reporting, Planning & Analysis.

Qualifications
  • Experienced practitioner with relevant qualifications. Likely to have a relevant degree or equivalent and may be part-qualified or qualified professional within a discipline or have extensive equivalent experience.
  • Relevant experience within a specific area of work in professional services or a partnership.
  • Experience in handling most situations without supervision, using judgement to tackle issues, and seeking advice on more complex problems; able to provide guidance to others.
  • Able to establish and maintain strong, credible working relationships and influence others.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex information/data and understand the impact on their discipline and wider firm.
  • Strong computer literacy and understanding of relevant software; keeps up to date with required training such as information security.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including communicating with technical and non-technical clients and staff at all levels.
  • High levels of commitment and the ability to act when necessary.
  • Team-focused mentality; understands the function must work collaboratively to drive success.
