Overview
Here is an exciting opportunity for an experienced specialist nurse to develop and lead the colposcopy service at the QEH alongside our experienced Consultant Gynaecologist.
Responsibilities
- Practice independently as a Nurse Colposcopist, accredited by the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP).
- Hold the Colposcopy Screening Programme Lead (CSPL) role as set out by Public Health England (PHE) for the Trust.
- Work as an advanced practitioner and effectively lead and deliver an expert nursing service within the Gynaecology Department.
- Maintain a cost-effective service, based upon the objectives of the department, care group and the Trust.
- Manage a caseload of patients within the Colposcopy service and lead the multi-disciplinary team meetings, ensuring reviews are conducted timely and patients are kept informed.
- Ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing clinical and social support.
- Assist in the development of evidence-based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.
- Provide an evidence-based specialist nursing service, responsive to users’ needs, to a cohort of patients referred to the specialist service/ MDT. Care will reflect local protocols and national guidelines and will be delivered through face-to-face consultation or via telephone on a day-to-day basis.
- Work clinically for 80% of the role, demonstrating advanced practice skills in the holistic assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for the cohort. This requires autonomy and advocacy, with analytical and judgemental skills to undertake differential diagnosis in accordance with BSCCP/NHSCSP guidelines.
- Spend 20% of the role completing colposcopy administration, audit, MDT planning and national reporting.
- Manage a cohort of patients and prioritise workload to meet patient and service needs.
- Undertake clinical competencies relevant to this specialist service to demonstrate expertise in extended nursing roles. Assess and effectively manage individual psychological reactions to diagnosis, treatment and associated side effects, including risk of cervical cancer, perceptions of sexually transmitted disease and impact on future fertility.

Requirements
- Clinically registered nursing qualification with BSCCP accreditation as Nurse Colposcopist.
- Colposcopy Screening Programme Lead (CSPL) role as defined by Public Health England (PHE) for the Trust.
- Advanced practitioner capable of leading and delivering an expert nursing service within Gynaecology.
