  • Shift A: Monday to Thursday, 07:00 – 15:45 | Friday 07:30 – 12:00
  • Shift B: Monday to Thursday, 07:30 – 16:15 | Friday 07:30 – 12:30

Our client, a leading manufacturer in the rail transport industry, is seeking a skilled and dedicated CNC Machinist (Turner) to join their growing operations team. This is a permanent, full‑time role with an excellent opportunity to showcase your expertise in CNC turning and contribute to a dynamic and supportive working environment.

Position Overview

The CNC Machinist (Turner) will be responsible for operating CNC turning centres (Fanuc/G‑Code) to produce high‑quality components, ensuring they meet the required specifications and tolerances as outlined in manufacturing drawings and approved documentation. You will work closely with the Production Manager and other team members to optimise production processes and ensure the efficient operation of machinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set and operate CNC turning centres (Fanuc/G‑Code) with precision and attention to detail.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and understand the associated specifications and tolerances.
  • Use a variety of inspection equipment such as micrometres, Vernier calipers, and standard gauging tools to ensure the quality of components.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintain quality standards for the components produced.
  • Generate and amend CNC machine programmes to ensure the efficient production of parts.
  • Assist and instruct other operatives with set‑ups, tooling, and cutting details to maximise programme efficiency.
  • Proactively identify and obtain necessary tooling, fixtures, and machine programme requirements in advance of each job to minimise downtime.
  • Carry out routine maintenance tasks including lubrication, machine cleaning, and replenishing cutting fluids to ensure optimal machine performance.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience as a CNC Machinist with a strong background in turning, drilling, tapping, reaming, and finish‑boring.
  • Proficiency in using CNC turning centres and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Hands‑on experience with Fanuc/G‑Code CNC programming.
  • Excellent knowledge of inspection equipment, including micrometres, Verniers, and standard gauging.
  • Ability to work independently, manage your time effectively, and take responsibility for your work.
  • Experience in carrying out routine machine maintenance and understanding of machine operations.
  • A proactive attitude to problem‑solving and process optimisation.
