Overview
This role will report into the Cloud Platform Lead and serve as a key technical implementer for delivering further services to the cloud. The role may involve delivering solutions using traditional style infrastructure or supporting cloud native toolsets. Work will be performed both centrally and alongside a product team. As a lead, the candidate will be expected to take the SRE lead on large projects, provide technical guidance to engineers, train others in cloud adoption and support the core cloud platform. The role may include occasional 24/7 on‑call support.
Responsibilities
- Lead the SRE effort on large projects.
- Provide technical guidance to the engineering team and mentor junior cloud engineers.
- Train others in cloud adoption and champion change control processes.
- Deliver solutions to VMs and Kubernetes, ensuring efficient deployment, scaling and management of applications.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or similar tools.
- Assess networking requirements and design appropriate solutions, including load balancing, firewalls, routing and network security.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to cloud infrastructure and applications.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, work with partners and vendors and ensure delivery of cloud projects.
- Participate in a 24/7 on‑call support rota.
Minimum Essential Qualifications
- Experience in technically leading projects and the role of an SRE.
- Expertise in Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform (preferred), Ansible, Jenkins, etc.
- Experience with cloud migration using industry standard frameworks such as CAF, Microsoft AzureRM, Google Cloud, etc.
- Strong DevOps background and experience in adopting public cloud services.
- Proficiency with Cloud, Kubernetes, GitHub and Terraform.
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Understanding of good change control processes and advocating for them within the team.
- Ability to document design and handover documentation with high quality.
- Familiarity with 24/7 on‑call support and flexible working hours.
Desirable Criteria
- Certification in cloud services (Azure, AWS, GCP, etc.).
- Experience implementing multi‑tenant solutions and understanding the associated benefits.
- Staying updated with the latest trends, best practices and technologies in cloud computing and DevOps to provide innovative solutions and drive continuous improvement.
