Overview

An exciting opportunity is available to join the R&D Cancer Team at South Tees NHS Foundation Trust as a Band 5 Clinical Trial Coordinator/Research Nurse.
This post will work within the team managing the set-up, participant recruitment and follow-up of clinical trials.
The post is based at James Cook University Hospital but may involve working at other sites within the Tees Valley Research Alliance.
The job purpose includes making a direct contribution to expanding the research portfolio at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post-holder will learn to manage and co-ordinate concurrent research studies with support from senior research colleagues.

Responsibilities
  • Provide effective, caring and compassionate services to patients participating in clinical research studies.
  • Complete procedures and investigations according to study protocol, Trust and local policies, including identifying potential participants for recruitment, providing verbal and written information to explain the study, monitoring participants’ progress, and collecting and collating patient data.
  • Perform clinical practices such as clinical assessment, venepuncture and performing study specific tests.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team in the coordination of clinical studies and ensure adherence to local, national and international research regulations.
  • Ensure recruitment to time and target for clinical trials; assist with the coordination of a portfolio of clinical trials and research studies across various clinical areas.
  • Provide some administrative and data management support for all aspects of trial organisation and communicate and collaborate with local regional and national organisations regarding administration of research as required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a health-related field.
  • Experience in clinical research or clinical nursing preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Commitment to the NHS values and the Constitution.

  • All new staff receive leadership and improvement training at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Training includes the leadership development programme and the Quality Improvement Programme delivered by the Trust.
  • Programme aims to explore leadership within the NHS, promote Trust values and behaviours, develop leadership effectiveness and skills, and provide practitioner level in quality improvement.
