Overview

The School Nurse Clinical Support Worker will work within their scope of practice to carry out aspects of care, provide support and advice, information and signpost. The SN CSW will be part of the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) for Walsall, attending schools and other educational establishments to weigh and measure children and young people. The School Nursing service is part of the wider Children’s Health services, providing community-based services for children and young people (aged 5-19 years). The service works with stakeholders across settings to lead delivery of the Healthy Child Programme (5-19) to improve child health outcomes and ensure that families at risk are identified at the earliest opportunity. The overarching aim is to protect and promote the health and wellbeing of children and families. The School Nursing service is led by school nurses and supported by a mixed skill team, and is central to delivering public health outcomes for children.

  • Respond to routine external and internal telephone queries from clients, carers/relatives, the public and multi-agency professional staff, providing appropriate non-clinical advice and sign posting.
  • Plan, organise and prioritise own workload, while accepting direction and delegation from higher-level administrative staff, clinical staff and managers.
  • Exercise good judgement, tact and discretion when dealing with patient inquiries, providing basic identification of needs within the scope of the job and non-clinical advice about admissions and appointments as authorised by the clinical team and team leaders.
  • Support administrative staff with general office duties (photocopying, faxing, printing, post handling, appointments, filing) as agreed with the Professional Lead.
  • Receive, welcome and direct visitors as they arrive in the department.
