Job summary

Qualifications

Job description
Overview

Provide a high standard of direct care for patients pre and post joint replacement and other orthopaedic procedures. Work with the team to promote early post operative mobilisation as appropriate and support in length of stay to facilitate safe discharge from hospital.

Document accurately in line with UHNM Trust policy.

Be involved in the induction and mentoring of new staff where applicable and act as a role model to junior members of the team.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver personal care including washing, dressing, toileting, and assisting with meals in a way that maintains dignity and respects patient preferences.
  • Support patients’ mobility and promote independence, including the use of appropriate mobility aids.
  • Carry out clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose (following training and competency) and escalating any concerns to the registered nurse.
  • Assist with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
  • Accurately document care given and escalating concerns promptly to the registered nurse.
  • Contribute to a clean and safe environment by adhering to infection control policies and maintaining high standards of hygiene.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ensure training is kept up to date and engage in the appraisal processes to support your professional development.
Qualifications
  • GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or Level 2 Functional Skills for Maths and English (or an ECCTIS comparability statement for overseas GCSE equivalent qualifications).
  • A Full Care Certificate or NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (NVQs must be from a regulated awarding body).
