Job description

Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen to take on the role of Oncology Clinical Specialist in the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre in Glan Clwyd Hospital.

The Post holder will be required to: Work as an autonomous, extended scope practitioner, with an extended scope of physiotherapy practice to work within a team to deliver a clinical specialist service to patients. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery and development of practice in the specialist area of Oncology medicine within physiotherapy and will work closely with the MDT within the NWCTC as well as with the Physiotherapy Service.

The physiotherapy service in BCUHB offers a whole career pathway to Band 8A as a clinical advanced practitioner. Service improvement and development is encouraged and all staff have access to regular supervision and training.

Main duties of the job

To take a clinical lead role in the assessment and treatment of patients where the caseload will comprise of mainly patients with complex presentations.

To work as an autonomous, clinical specialist physiotherapist. To work with the advanced practitioner physiotherapist to develop and deliver a high quality clinical service throughout BCUHB. Leading by example; provide a high standard of specialist assessment and treatment of patients.

To develop competencies for frontline clinical staff within the section in order to assess; clinically reason and effectively treat routine cases and identify those with complex needs where support may be required. Support staff to develop skills to identify potential serious pathology in patients referred for physiotherapy.

To provide an ongoing rolling training programme and support package to develop appropriate knowledge and skills in the workforce within the specialism and rotational staff base.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
