Job Title

Clinical Nurse Specialist – Skin; Cancer & Melanoma (Band 7, Fixed‑Term, Part‑time, 12 months)

Job Summary

The post holder provides advanced specialist nursing care to patients with skin cancer at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. Working closely with the existing Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists, the role delivers comprehensive clinical leadership, evidence‑based practice and consultation to patients, carers and multidisciplinary team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise with the multidisciplinary team, Trust management and corporate directorates to coordinate skin cancer care.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate advanced nursing care across the cancer pathway, using clinical judgment and up‑to‑date evidence.
  • Lead in the development and review of policies, procedures and protocols for skin cancer management.
  • Provide information and support to patients, carers and staff, acting as a patient advocate where appropriate.
  • Deliver informal and formal teaching, including supporting academic courses offered by the School of Nursing.
  • Contribute to the training and development of nursing staff to meet the required level of intervention as directed by the Clinical Lead or Matron.
  • Maintain and enhance knowledge of clinical practice and research relevant to skin and melanoma care.
Person Specification – Education & Qualifications
  • NMC Registration.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Degree level education.
  • Post‑graduate qualification in oncology or a related speciality.
Person Specification – Experience
  • Post‑registration nursing experience in oncology at Band 6 or above.
  • Experience in at least one oncological treatment modality (SACT, surgery or radiotherapy).
  • Knowledge of the care of patients with cancer.
  • Desirable: experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and in clinical management.

  • Teamworking, customer‑care orientation and decision‑making skills.
  • Organisation, prioritisation and planning abilities.
  • Desirable: venepuncture, cannulation, CVAD access and negotiation/influencing skills.
  • Flexibility to work shifts and on both Chelsea and Sutton sites.
