Job description
Overview

You will play an essential role in supporting the delivery of the highest standard of quality care to our patients, working alongside registered nurses and other healthcare professionals to deliver high quality, compassionate healthcare to patients in accordance with their assessed needs and care plans.

This is a busy role but also rewarding. Your role will include a wide range of tasks, from providing personal care to undertaking clinical observations.

Responsibilities
  • You will be required to follow rigorous policies such as infection control and manual handling policies.
  • You will be required to provide emotional and practical support to patient & their families and there will be times when you see distressing situations which includes vulnerable, violent or aggressive patients.
  • You may also assist patients at their end of life and support grieving relatives, working within the multidisciplinary team supporting the delivery of evidence based care.
  • To adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.
  • To communicate effectively, especially where patient ability to do so is compromised. On occasions, the job holder may be exposed to distressing or emotional circumstances.
  • Maintain discretion and understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
  • Support patients with all aspects of care including daily living, providing person-centred care.
  • Support patients with movement using safe moving and handling techniques.
  • Perform and record clinical observations with competency including blood pressure, temperature, respirations and pulse.
  • Accurately record nutritional and fluid intake.
  • Ensure the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained at all times.
  • Recognise issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable adults and report any problems or raise concerns to the appropriate Registered Care professionals.
  • Demonstrate the ability to recognise changing priorities, seeking advice and guidance from the Registered Nurse or other registered care professionals as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Resilient, motivated with their development, enthusiastic and flexible in their approach to work and are committed to working full time or part time on a substantive contract.
  • The ability to work well with all members of the team is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to work as part of a team and provide compassionate care to elderly patients at Cheltenham General Hospital.
  • Extensive care experience preferably working with elderly patients and have completed the Care certificate.
  • Training will be provided for the right candidates.
  • Basic IT skills including Word, Email and keyboard skills.
  • Good communication skills.
