Job summary

A leading healthcare institution in the United Kingdom is inviting applications for an Orthopaedic Clinical Fellowship in Sarcoma and Hip Arthroplasty Surgery. The successful candidate will gain clinical experience in Hip and Knee Surgery, performing clinics and assisting in surgeries under consultant supervision. Job description
Post: Orthopaedic Clinical Fellowship Sarcoma and Hip Arthroplasty Surgery

Grade: MT05

Contract: 12‑month Fixed Term, to start March 2026

Applications are invited from surgeons with FRCS (Tr&Orth) or equivalent who have completed specialist registrar training by appointment and hold full registration with the GMC. The fellowship will be based at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Oxford.

3.1 Clinical Commitment

The purpose of the post is to enable the successful candidate to gain further experience in Hip and Knee Surgery. The post holder will acquire clinical and operative skills under the direct supervision of consultants within the Hip and Knee Team. Responsibilities include conducting clinics, operating lists, ward rounds and assisting with clinical management on behalf of consultants during their absence.

On‑call duties
  • Resident on‑call 08:00‑20:30 (1:20 rota)
  • Non‑resident on‑call 20:00‑08:00 (1:20 rota)
  • Resident on‑call 20:00‑08:30 (1:20 rota)
Fellowship Structure

Fellowships will encompass one of three areas during each six‑month period: Revision arthroplasty, soft tissue knee surgery, orthopaedic oncology or hip arthroscopy. Applicants should indicate on their application form two areas they wish to cover during their fellowship. Fellows commence on the first Monday of March and September; the preferred start month and year should be included in the application.

Although advertised as a 12‑month post, it may be offered on a 6‑month contract extendable to 12 months. Please indicate the desired placement period in your application.

Salary and Working Conditions

Salary scale: Nodal Point 5 – local appointment grade code – MT05.

Out‑of‑hours commitment and all mandatory and statutory training are applicable.

The post is subject to the Trust’s terms and conditions, mirroring the 2018 junior doctors contract refresh.
