A healthcare institution in Plymouth is seeking an apprentice to join their Clinical Engineering department. The role involves supporting various functions such as equipment management and maintenance within a structured training program. Candidates should have a strong interest in electronics and engineering, with 5 GCSEs required. This position offers a great opportunity for career development within a supportive team environment.
The Clinical Engineering department at Derriford hospital manages 40,000 active medical devices and provides leadership, governance and lifecycle support across device management for the Trust and other customers. University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust seeks to appoint an apprentice to support various Clinical Engineering functions, including commissioning, decommissioning, decontamination, booking in, returning and collecting equipment. Apprentices will participate in the Clinical Engineering training scheme, including the Healthcare Engineering Specialist Technician, Level 3 course. This education is funded under the Government apprenticeship scheme, with 20% of the working week allocated for study (paid) and to build a portfolio toward evidence-based progression to a Technical Inspector.
On completion of the Level 3 Specialist Technician course, POST qualification education including the PTP Healthcare Science degree (UWE) will be available, with potential progression to the Clinical Engineering Technician (band 4) role.
Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as Priority and At Risk status applicants, including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who can display recent relevant experience as per the Person Specification.
