Overview

Facilities Management currently has a Cleaner / Porter vacancy within our Corporate Asset Management Department. The department consists of three key business areas – Fleet Services, Estates and Facilities Management – that provide a wide range of enabling support services including acquisitions, disposals, maintenance and servicing of police buildings and vehicles.

The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out general cleaning and porter duties within the operational police station or partner building, covering offices, washrooms, welfare areas, custody suites and forensic areas.

Hours & Salary

Part‑time vacancy – 20 hours per week. Working times: Oldbury Custody (Wednesday to Friday, 07:00–11:00), West Bromwich Police Station (Saturday & Sunday, 07:00–11:00). Salary is pro‑rata.

Key Responsibilities
  • Damp dusting furniture and fixtures, suction cleaning and wet mopping floors and stairwells, washing walls, vertical surfaces and tiled areas up to a height of 3.53 m using high‑level cleaning equipment.
  • Cleaning kitchens and welfare areas, including defrosting refrigerators and cleaning inside units and cupboards.
  • Maintaining cleaning equipment and reporting any faulty equipment or materials.
  • Reporting maintenance defects noted in the building.
  • Carrying out porter duties that involve manual handling of furniture and goods, and clearing/cleaning external areas as instructed.
  • Undergoing training to safely carry out any other duties commensurate with the purpose and grading of the post.
Person Specification
  • Experience of working in a similar role, ideally across multiple sites.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to understand both written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic IT skills (email, e‑learning packages).
  • Ability to undertake work that involves manual handling.
  • Desire to undertake learning and development in performing all duties including safe use of cleaning equipment, machinery, manual handling and lifting equipment.
  • Agility to commute to alternative areas of work within the police estate as required.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and possess good interpersonal skills.
  • Availability for weekend work or bank holidays as required.
