Overview

Classroom support assistant

Full time or flexible part time. Term time only with opportunities of becoming permanent. Special school for secondary age students in Pontefract. The school caters for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly those with Severe complex or profound multiple learning difficulties. Many students have additional needs, including Autism, sensory impairment, challenging behaviour, as well as medical and physical difficulties.

Responsibilities
  • Provide classroom support in a secondary special school setting.
  • Assist with personal care and feeding for students as required.
  • Support students with PMLD, severe complex needs, Autism, sensory impairment, challenging behaviour, medical and physical difficulties.
  • Assist with manual handling tasks where required.
  • Work with the teaching team to support pupil outcomes and participate in on-the-job training and ongoing consultant feedback.
Qualifications
  • At least 6 months UK experience working in a special school or similar setting.
  • GCSE passes, GNVQ Level 2 or higher in Health and Social Care.
  • Experience supporting students with PMLD, severe complex needs, Autism, sensory impairment, challenging behaviour, medical and physical difficulties.
  • Manual Handling and/or Team Teach training (advantageous if you have CPD in these areas).
  • Child and Adult Workforce DBS subscribed to the annual subscription service, or willingness to apply for one.
