As a Civil Engineering Apprentice (Water), you’ll play a key role in supporting the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, helping to ensure they are delivered safely, sustainably and to the highest technical standards. You’ll develop the skills and knowledge needed for a long-term career in civil engineering within the water sector.

Location

This role will be based in the South West region, working within our Infrastructure – Water teams. You’ll gain experience across live sites and office-based engineering environments, supporting projects delivered under long-term water frameworks.

What you’ll be doing

As a Civil Engineering Apprentice, you’ll combine hands-on project experience with formal academic study, developing the skills required to become a qualified civil engineer in the water industry.

You will study towards the Civil Engineering Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship, gaining a BEng (Hons) or BSc (Hons) degree.

With the support of experienced engineers and project teams, you’ll:

  • Support the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pipelines, pumping stations, treatment works, tanks and associated civils
  • Assist with site engineering activities such as setting out, surveys, inspections and quality checks
  • Help interpret drawings, specifications and technical standards specific to water industry projects
  • Support the planning, sequencing and coordination of works on site
  • Assist with inspections, testing and commissioning activities to ensure assets meet design and regulatory requirements
  • Learn how health, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements are applied within the water sector
  • Support the preparation of technical documentation, reports, permits and as-built records
  • Work closely with site teams, designers, subcontractors and client representatives to resolve technical and engineering challenges
  • Develop an understanding of sustainable construction methods and how engineering solutions support environmental protection and resilience
Why this role?

This apprenticeship provides a practical and supported route into the water and wastewater industry, combining real project experience with a recognised degree qualification. You’ll receive structured training, mentoring and professional development, giving you a strong foundation to progress into roles such as Assistant Civil Engineer, Civil Engineer or Project Engineer within Tilbury Douglas Infrastructure.
