Job description
Overview

Are you passionate about making a real difference to the lives of children with special educational needs? If so, this role could be perfect for you. We’re working with a fantastic specialist setting for children between KS2-KS4 who all have Education, Health and Care Plans. The pupils here have a range of needs, with many experiencing complex learning difficulties and speech, language and communication needs. Classes are small, with plenty of adult support, which means you’ll have the time and space to really get to know each child. The school’s ethos is all about inspiring, nurturing and helping pupils to thrive. Every child is treated as an individual, and the focus is on building confidence, independence, and life skills alongside academic progress.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Work alongside teachers and teaching assistants to support learning in class, in small groups or 1:1.
  • Adapt tasks, use visuals and hands-on approaches to help children understand and stay engaged.
  • Support communication and interaction, often working closely with speech and language therapists.
  • Help pupils develop independence and life skills, celebrating progress in and out of the classroom.
  • Offer calm, patient support when pupils are struggling with emotions or behaviour.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with the children – you’ll often be that trusted adult they look to for reassurance.
About You
  • Have experience of working with children (especially those with SEND), or you’re keen to learn and develop.
  • Are patient, resilient and able to adapt your approach to meet different needs.
  • Enjoy working as part of a team but can also take initiative.
  • Have strong communication skills and a caring, nurturing approach.
  • Believe in celebrating every achievement, no matter how small.
Why You’ll Love This Role

You’ll get to see first-hand the difference your support makes to children’s confidence and independence. You’ll be part of a welcoming, dedicated team who really care about their pupils. You’ll gain valuable experience and ongoing training in specialist SEND strategies. Most importantly, you’ll go home each day knowing you’ve helped children feel seen, supported and able to thrive.
