Base pay range

$170,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr

Role summary

Synexus is seeking a highly skilled Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to provide 6-8 month interim parental leave cover. You will work directly with the CEO, acting as both a technology and business expert, making decisions impacting current and future operations. As the interim CTO, you will oversee all technology and technological resources and execute the technology vision, strategies, and growth plans. You will also lead our intelligence products team to support using Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) to perform quality assurance on our systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership across the organisation to ensure product-market fit and deliver to initial and future customers. Provide final decision-making authority over technical products and teams. Oversee the Data (Data Science|Engineering|DevOps) and Intel (Product|Intelligence) functions
• Product-Market fit: Align product roadmap choices with input from clients (via CCO + CBO) and ensure that the Data & Intel teams deliver on product improvements. Get new products to market, incorporating initial customer feedback to improve them
• New Product Directions: Guide new product decisions, contributing information on feasibility and technical partnerships
• Team Management: Manage and develop all direct reports, support team managers and skip-levels. Hire key new resources and manage recruitment processes to keep hiring plans on track
• Budget Management: Manage budgets to deliver against the business plan
• Secure Tech Standards: Ensure the implementation and enforcement of the highest technology standards
• Model Leadership: Act as a role model of the “Synexus Behaviours” for the Data and Intel teams (Positivity, Respect, Accountability, Outcomes Focus)

Essential Experience And Behaviours

• 5-10 years of experience in a technical position successfully collaborating with teams of data scientists, engineers and product managers
• Leadership roles requiring the management of significant teams from different technical disciplines
• An aptitude for technology innovation, especially in advanced machine learning fields. Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP), especially large language models (LLMs) is preferred
• Experience or close collaboration with teams that use OSINT techniques to investigate the internet information landscape
• Experience in process improvement successes, strong financial acumen
• Technical fluency in python, system administration, data science tools, and cloud platforms
• Excellent presentation, writing, and research skills
• Tolerance for ambiguity and frequent pivots
• Skills to operate effectively in a scale-up environment

Desirable Experience And Behaviours

• Experience working as part of a remote/virtual team
• Professional fluency in languages other than English
• Experience using work tools such as Asana and Slack
• Experience managing concurrent projects across countries and time zones

6-8 month Fixed-Term Contract from November 2025 (Parental Leave Cover)

Being able to work on/overlap heavily with US Central time hours is essential.

As a global organization, some flexibility for cross-time zone communication to be available for limited virtual meetings outside of office hours is required.
