Job description

A government body is seeking an experienced Chief Accountant / Financial Controller to manage the production of the Council's Single entity and Group accounts. Duties will include leading up to 10 FTE, managing the Council's system of financial controls, liaising with external auditors, managing end‑of‑year capital and asset accounting processes, and managing system improvements in the Council's core financial systems and reporting.

Based in the Bexleyheath area, Kent / South East London, this is a contract role for initially 26 weeks (36 hours per week) from approximately 16th February, paid £97.22 per hour, less deductions for insurance, taxes and umbrella company charges (PAYE £71.77 per hour). The closing date is Monday, 15th December.

To be suitable for this role, you must have proven experience in a Chief Accountant, Financial Controller or similar senior accounts role in a complex organisation, ideally in a Borough or Council environment. It is essential to have a CCAB qualification, such as ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA or CIMA, and experience acting as primary advisor on Section 151 to the Council's statutory officer.
