The role

As a CDM Safety Advisor, you’ll have a role with a unique opportunity to influence safety culture on high‑profile defence programmes, while developing your career in a dynamic and rewarding environment.

Day-to-day, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring health and safety compliance across construction and maintenance activities in one of the UK’s most complex industrial environments. You’ll assess contractor safety systems, conduct inspections, and provide expert advice that keeps people safe and projects compliant.

  • Assessing contractors’ safety management systems and onboarding processes.
  • Conducting inspections of contractor activities and monitoring compliance.
  • Supporting the SHE Lead in planning, delivery and evaluation of contractor performance.
  • Providing professional advice on health and safety processes and practical application.
  • Developing and maintaining health and safety reports, policies and arrangements.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the CDM Safety Advisor
  • Extensive construction health and safety experience in hazardous industries.
  • Minimum 3 years’ SHE experience in high‑risk environments (desirable).
  • Working with SSIP organisations (Accredited SSIP assessor).
  • Experience supporting contractor onboarding and maintenance operations.
  • Scaffold awareness, Work at Height (WAH) and temporary works experience.
Qualifications for the CDM Safety Advisor
  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in Health and Safety (or equivalent).
  • SSIP Assessor accreditation.
  • Ambition to achieve Chartered status with IOSH or similar professional body.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
