Job description

Are you motivated and resourceful, eager to make a meaningful difference? L is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, and caring companion to support her in daily activities with focus on promoting her mental and physical wellbeing. L was diagnosed with global developmental delay after birth. Later, following a group B streptococcal sepsis with multiorgan failure, L required above knee amputation of the left leg and below knee amputation of the right leg. L's main means of mobility, both indoors and outdoors, is a manual wheelchair.

Responsibilities
  • Fostering independence through organizing outings and mindfully incorporating a person-centred approach at every stage.
  • Supporting ongoing cognitive development through educational activities at home, creating opportunities for L to be intellectually challenged at an appropriate level and pace, and training of Makaton (Sign Language).
  • Promoting L's physical and mental wellbeing through designing activities to promote L's core strength (based on advice from physiotherapist); encouraging L in taking charge of her physical health; assisting with personal hygiene; and being mindful of L's mental health needs.

Experience and requirements
  • Experience with hydrocephalus, global development delay and Fallot's Tetralogy (congenital cardiac disease).

  • Good organisational skills who can adhere to standards and quality requirements; friendly, approachable with a proactive and encouraging approach.
  • Water confident to assist with swimming.
  • Punctual, patient, reliable and trustworthy.
  • Maintains an excellent level of confidentiality.
  • Good verbal & written communication skills and IT literate; able to think creatively and use initiative.
  • Willingness to work flexibly and cover shifts, sometimes at short notice.
  • A full driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed).

We work with children and adults who have had moderate or catastrophic, complex injuries. We assess individual needs and are able to provide a comprehensive Case Management and Rehabilitation Service designed to maximise independence. We are CQC registered and compliant with their standards.

If you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection. However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role. Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
