Main Responsibilities
  • Support People in daily living skills such as washing, toileting, dressing, undressing, and other aspects of daily living.
  • Assist people with physical, emotional and spiritual needs while ensuring comfort and dignity.
  • Pay special attention to people with limited mobility or learning difficulties, making best use of aids provided.
  • Monitor people who may be confused and/or have behavioural problems.
  • Assist with continence promotion and end of life care, including last offices.
  • Complete written daily records as instructed and in line with the company’s policies and procedures.
  • Participate in social activities and help people continue hobbies and activities in the care home.
  • Answer Nursecall system, provide assistance and pass on messages promptly.
  • Report on the well-being of people under the supervision of senior care staff.
  • Carry out regular checks on people at intervals determined by senior staff members.
  • Make visitors feel welcome, provide refreshments and assistance as required.
  • Ensure rooms are clean and tidy, commodes are empty, and the disposal of waste policy is followed.
  • Clean and maintain equipment used by people and relatives, including wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles, etc.
  • Assist people who need help during meal times, including serving food and drinks as requested.
  • Escort people travelling to and from the care home for social outings and hospital visits.
  • Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with personal and financial affairs of people.
  • Assist where needed in rearranging people’s bedrooms, moving furniture and beds, using safe handling techniques at all times.
Communication
  • Participate in staff and client meetings as required.
Training and Development
  • Maintain professional knowledge and competence.
  • Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.
  • Participate in relevant N/SVQ training to achieve required qualifications.
Health and Safety
  • Report immediately to the home manager any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a person in care, colleague, self or another.
  • Understand and ensure the implementation of the care home’s health and safety policy, and emergency and fire procedures.
  • Report to the home manager any faulty appliances, damaged furniture or equipment or any potential hazard.
  • Promote safe working practice within the care home.
  • Promote and ensure the good reputation of the care home.
  • Ensure that all confidential information gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
  • Notify the home manager of inability to report for duty as soon as possible (no less than 2 hours before the start of your shift) and on your return from all periods of absence.
  • Ensure the security of the care home at all times.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures within the defined time scales.
  • Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.
  • Carry out any other tasks reasonably assigned to you.
