The post holder will be a care coordinator responsible for assessing and treating a range of mental health and significant behavioural difficulties in children and young people referred to the team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Carry out risk assessments with children & young people and their families routinely.
  • Work under the supervision of the team manager and senior clinical supervisor to manage situations effectively.
  • Screen and manage new referrals, telephone queries and support the team on the daily duty rota.
  • Collaborate with other CAMHS practitioners across all disciplines and contribute to internal and external professional networks.
  • Maintain a safe therapeutic environment and deliver high operational standards in clinical systems.
  • Supervise junior members of the team (Band 5 – 6) or trainees from any discipline.

Main duties of the job:

The role is for the Adolescent Treatment Team, a specialist team within Lewisham CAMHS providing stabilisation, formulation treatment and discharge to high‑risk complex mental health presentations for children in Lewisham.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree or above.
  • Professional registration with one of the statutory bodies: NMC, HPC, ACP, UKCP or BACAP.
  • Professional training and relevant CAMHS experience.
  • Post‑qualifying training in working with children and adolescents with mental health problems.
  • Assessed supervised clinical experience working with children and adolescents with mental health problems.
  • Knowledge of mental health disorders in children and adolescents and relevant legislation.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good working knowledge of mental health disorders and difficulties common to Looked After Children.
  • Assessment of risk and management of risk factors.
  • Clinical governance, audit and supervision in CAMHS.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and basic IT skills.
  • Ability to work therapeutically with clients and adapt practice from reflection.
