CAMHS Neuro ADHD Nurse Prescriber
£47,810 to £54,710 a year (pro rata)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Nurse Prescriber to work within the Cambridge CAMHS Neurodevelopmental team. We work with children and young people with moderate to severe mental health disorders with comorbid ASD, LD and ADHD, providing comprehensive assessment and intervention. This role will mainly work within the ADHD pathway, with opportunities for development in other pathways. The role includes neurodevelopmental assessments, post‑diagnostic support, ADHD medication prescribing and monitoring, and psycho‑education. You will receive clinical supervision, monthly CPD programme, and regular MDT reflective meetings within a supportive, multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
- Deliver an evidence‑based therapy service to children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism, ADHD and Learning Disabilities.
- Manage patients on a community basis, providing assessment of neurodevelopmental disorders and comorbid mental health disorder and evidence‑based therapy.
- Offer advice and consultation on patient mental health care to colleagues, partner agencies and other non‑professional carers.
- Work autonomously within professional guidelines and the Trust’s policies and procedures.

Job responsibilities
- Act as an integral member of the CAMHS Neurodevelopment Community Team, providing comprehensive mental health and diagnostic assessments of ADHD and other specialist assessments (e.g., Qb, SALT, OT, Cognitive), demonstrating appropriate use, interpretation and integration of data from a variety of sources.
- Participate in MDT ADHD formulation meetings and utilise specialist knowledge for decisions about child or young person mental health and neurodevelopmental needs.
- Provide physical health checks, including height, weight and blood pressure for children taking medication for ADHD.
- Conduct ADHD medication reviews in clinic under the supervision of ADHD doctors.
- Engage in the prevention and early detection of emotional and mental health difficulties in children and adolescents referred to the service.
- Plan and deliver evidence‑based therapeutic programmes (e.g., Positive Behaviour Support, CBT and Parenting programmes) on an individual and group basis to children, young people and their families.
- Develop formulations that integrate assessment information within a coherent framework drawing upon mental health theory and evidence, including developmental, interpersonal, societal, cultural and biological factors.
- Evaluate and make treatment decisions in collaboration with the Multidisciplinary Team.
- Travel independently around the county to meet strict time deadlines. Hold a full UK driving licence and use of a vehicle. Public transport is not acceptable for this role. Please confirm you meet the specified criteria in your application.
Person Specification
- Knowledge and understanding of Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
- Knowledge and understanding of neuro‑developmental disorders.
- Sound knowledge of the Trust’s and Local Safeguarding policy and procedures.
Other
- Ability to travel between sites and to service user homes when clinically necessary.
Education / Qualifications
- UK‑registered qualification with NMC (e.g., Learning Disability Nurse, Children’s Nurse, Adult Nurse or RMN).
- Non‑medical prescriber training.
- Training in Child Protection.
- Training in an evidence‑based therapeutic intervention recommended by NICE (e.g., CBT, IPT, Systemic Therapy).
- Additional training in managing challenging behaviour.
- Training in ADHD diagnostics (e.g., Qb or willingness to undertake training).
Experience
- Experience working with children, young people and families.
- Experience working with children or adults with ADHD, learning disability and/or autism.
- Experience undertaking mental health and risk assessments.
- Post‑qualification experience in assessment and treatment of children, young people and families (and/or adults).
- Experience in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating clinical outcomes.
- Experience in providing supervision.

- Evidence of ability to exercise a high level of judgement and decision‑making.
