Overview

Brook Street Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of our Belfast client for a full-time, permanent Business Development / Field Sales Executive in the Freight industry. The role focuses on building and maintaining relationships with existing and potential clients, understanding their needs, and providing tailored freight solutions. Primary focus is on ocean freight (FCL/LCL), with potential involvement in road, airfreight, and customs clearance services. The role is field-based, with collaboration with internal teams as required.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities with both importers and exporters.
  • Generate leads and perform prospecting calls to new clients.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding customer needs and proposing suitable freight solutions.
  • Prepare and deliver sales presentations, proposals, and quotations to clients.
  • Negotiate rates and contracts in line with company pricing structures and margin expectations.
  • Collaborate with the Sales Manager, other commercial team members, and operations/customer service teams to ensure a premier customer service experience.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, competitor activity, and market conditions.
  • Meet and exceed individual and team sales targets.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activity and customer information using CRM systems.
  • Attend industry events, networking opportunities, and trade shows where appropriate.
Key Requirements
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of sales experience in freight forwarding (preferably in Northern Ireland, focusing on ocean freight FCL/LCL).
  • Proven track record in business development and achieving sales targets.
  • Additional experience in air freight, road freight, and customs procedures is advantageous but not essential.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of freight forwarding operations and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong negotiation and closing skills.
  • Self-motivated, target-driven, and able to work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software.
  • Ability to handle pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Valid UK/NI driver’s license.
  • Willingness to work in the field and in the office as required.
