About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Supervisor to join Hitachi Energy's Grid & Power Quality Solutions and Service business in Europe (HBUEU). You will lead and coordinate all site-based commissioning activities across assigned projects within the Grid Integration business, ensuring a safe, effective, and compliant execution of commissioning work, supporting Site Lead Commissioning Engineers and overseeing site teams in accordance with company EHS and Quality Policies.
Location
Remote with occasional visits to the Birmingham office and client locations in the UK/EU as required. (We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position).
Key Responsibilities
- Site Leadership & Coordination: Supervise, allocate, and coordinate daily commissioning activities for all site-based teams and sub‑contractors; interface regularly with Site Lead Commissioning Engineers; organise, schedule and manage resources (personnel, equipment) across the site portfolio.
- Technical Delivery: Oversee commissioning execution (secondary injection, primary injection, functional testing, energisation, handover) for LV and HV equipment up to 400k V at substations and offshore platforms; develop, review, and maintain commissioning schedules in coordination with Site Leads and Project Manager; support the preparation, review, and control of inspection and test plans, commissioning documentation, and procedures.
- Reporting & Communication: Provide daily/weekly progress reports to the Department Commissioning Manager regarding safety, quality, time, and cost status; communicate issues, risks, non‑conformances, and proposed solutions to site teams and project management; liaise with suppliers, vendors, manufacturers, and other engineering teams as required.
- Continuous Improvement: Capture lessons learned, support development of standard procedures, and promote a culture of continuous improvement within site commissioning activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or above in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum five years of experience with the commissioning of substations, including hands‑on execution and team management.
- Substantial experience on grid/substation projects with knowledge of safety and commissioning practices for LV and HV (up to 400k V).
- Strong understanding of inspection and test methods (secondary/primary injection, functional testing).
- Excellent communication, team‑leadership and scheduling skills; experience with reporting tools and commissioning documentation systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, etc.) and experience with Microsoft Project or similar tools for developing commissioning schedules.
